Hmmm thats strange, becuase I got Josefina for christmas and she has the neck ties? Well I'm glad ag is fixing it for you.
Bad news' ladies.. these plastic neck ties are the way that AG is moving with their NEW dolls.. Birdie got a new Molly for Christmas from Santa.. she has a plastic neck tie (the doll, not Birdie.. LOL!) So, I called AG CS and I was told I can send her back with no charge to me for shipping either way, and that they will put a neck string in place of the tie, but that this is the way that all the dolls are going to be made eventually. Now, personally, I think that this REALLY cheapens the quality of the doll, but aside from that, it makes it harder to clean dolls when our little girls get their bodies dirty. I guess we can always remove the ties ourselves by cutting them, ever so carefully, with an exacto knife and then running a cord (which you can buy at JoAnn's) in the neck .. attach a saftey pin to one end of the cord and it will go thru MUCH easier.. HOWEVER, for what we pay for these new dolls,I dont think that they should be doing this.. JMO, but I think it makes them look REALLY cheap.. something about those neck strings says that it is a better high end toy. I am disapointed and if you find yourself feeling the same way, please call in and voice your opinion to the CSR's at AG to let them know. I was told that they DO listen to us.

Thanks for the heads up Angie!
Great picture of Birdie and Bitty ! Cute!
Thank you for the info.
Glad they are fixing the problem. But wondering if people return the dolls or send them in for replacements neck ties, AG may get the idea and not make the change to plastic neck ties. There has sure been a big shift at AG to get things as cheap as they can and charge as much as they can. Will just make the pm items all that more valuable.
I am not surprised at this change. I 1st thought that somehow she got a doll that was returned.. but then the rep told me that all the new dolls will be made with these plastic neck ties. Mattel is the lead decision maker with AG, even though the design teams for AG are there in IL and Mattel's other doll design teams are in El Segundo, CA. They are notorious for cheap shortcuts with their Barbies.. BUT they do listen to collectors.. not too many years ago, they tried to change Barbies little sister, Kelly by giving her a new lanky body and football / lemon shaped head.. colletors were FURIOUS to say the least.. letters and emails were written and phone calls were made to the point that Mattel ditched the new Kelly and went back to the old pot belly sweet innocent one that collectors so loved..

I love the neck strings and I've never had a problem with them before! I wonder why they're changing them? This is so annoying... I suppose that'll make the ones with neck strings more valuable, though... I still don't want them to change.
Thanks for the heads up, though, and welcome back GillyGals!
Anyone have a doll with plastic ties? How do they work? What do they look like? And does it make the dolls cheaper? Do they break easier than the strings?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The rep I talked to told me that they are switching over to the pull ties because they get too many complaints about the dolls' heads falling off and the ties getting in the way when little girls try to dress their dolls.. I cant help but wonder how long they had been supposedly getting complaints that they are only now changing them... those dolls have been made that way for years.. why change them now? I cant help but think that the ties are just cheaper to put in.. they look like little squares in the back of the doll's neck.. like electrical pull ties that you see around wires sometimes. They are used on low end baby dolls as a rule.. Oh, Berenguer baby dolls have them around their necks, arms and legs where the cloth body is attached to them.Originally posted by Tra:

Our new Jess doll has the ties - I would have thought if they were switching they would have done so with Jess completely. Elizabeth is new to us and has the ties too.
We did have a problem with Marisol. Dd was brushing her hair in August and her head flew right off. Don't know who was more horrified and upset, dd, me, or Marisol! We were going to AGPC within a few days, so even though I had reattached the head we took it in to have them look at her. They gave us a new one. Maybe that is the sort of thing they are referring to?
Little squares on the back of their necks? I think I've seen those before on baby dolls...like you said...I suppose those won't be too bad... but still... how do you take the dolls' heads off to wash the bodies? Will the heads still turn the same? I don't recall the baby dolls I've seen being able to turn their heads... I really hope their heads can still turn...
